Dhaulagiri Trek

In Sanskrit ‘dhawala’ means white and dazzling, and ‘giri’ refers to mountain. Thus, the English translation of its name is ‘dazzling mountain’, and sure it does dazzle. The Dhaulagiri massif extends 120 km from the Kaligandaki River in the west to the Bheri in the east.

The best way to experience the vastness of the mountain is to go on a trek of the region. The magnificent views of the mighty mountain will leave you awestruck The Dhaulagiri trek has been especially designed to give tourists the opportunity to witness the might of the enormous mountain. Also, on the way there are beautiful rhododendron forests, oak, deciduous trees and junipers to keep your spirits up the whole time.

The trek takes off from Beni and entails crossing high passes-the French pass which is 5360m steep and the Dhampus pass which is 5250m deep. This is why being physically fit is a must.

The 21 day trek covers many beautiful places in Nepal in addition to the Dhaulagiri. After a brief sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, on day 3 the trekking group is driven to Beni. The next day the trek marches on to Babiachor. During the course of the trip trekkers travel through Dharapani, Muri, Boghara, Dobang, ChoribanKhola, Italian Base Camp, Glacier Camp, Dhaulagiri Base Camp, French Pass, Dhampus Pass, Jomsom and Pokhara and finally a  flight from Pokhara takes them back to Kathmandu. The best time to visit is Sept - Nov and Mar – May.

For those looking for some adventure in the wilderness of Nepal, going on the Dhaulagiri trek is the best travel option. However, only those who have had some prior experience of trekking on mountains and can withstand physical stress are advised to take this trip.
